Just the mere sight of them induces high-pitched screaming from the ladies. Their allure and talents have impressed Pinoy Boyband Superstar judges Aga Muhlach, Yeng Constantino, Sandara Park and Vice Ganda during the Auditions. They then went on to dominate in last week’s Middle Rounds, earning themselves a coveted spot each in the Pinoy Boyband Superstar’s Top 12. And while we eagerly wait for the Live Shows, let us first get to know Russell, Tony, and Tristan better as they open up on how they would confess to a girl and what their dream dates are.
Take out your pens and papers, ladies. Here are a few things every fangirl should know about these three dreamy Pinoy Boyband hopefuls.
Russell Reyes 18-year old Russell may just be destined to be part of the next ultimate Pinoy Boyband. A member of a vocal jazz ensemble in the US, Russell was just visiting his relatives in the Philippines when he learned about the Auditions for the Pinoy Boyband Superstar. Talk about perfect timing! His strong, assertive personality may have intimidated the ladies at first during the initial Auditions, but his emotional rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Lately” revealed Russell’s talent and sensitivity. The judges gave him a pass to the Middle Rounds with the specification that he improves his knowledge of the Filipino language. In answer to the challenge posed by Vice Ganda, Russell sang the Bituin Escalante original “Kung Ako Na Lang Sana,” proving that he is able to perform Tagalog songs extremely well.
Although a self-professed NGSB (No Girlfriend Since Birth), Russell sure knows how to treat a lady. He says that if he fancies a girl, he would, “Bring her favorite type [of] flower. Take her to dinner at a nice restaurant or the place we first met. Sing her her favorite songs.” And where would he take her for an unforgettable date? Russell insists that there’s nothing more romantic then going to the beach for a picnic, watching the sunset and then watching the stars at night.
Tony Labrusca This 21-year old former gymnast knows that he looks like a bad boy, but he assures everyone that he is one of the sweetest guys you’ll ever meet. It looks like the ladies totally agree. They gave Tony an astronomical approval rating of 98% on the Auditions, the highest score ever received this first season. His knockout looks even got the judges excited and had them wishing hard that he could sing, so that he would be a perfect contender for Pinoy Boyband Superstar. And Tony did not fail them. His heart-felt cover of Lifehouse’s hit “You and Me” was like an answered prayer for the judges. Turns out, singing has always been Tony’s passion and music is in his blood, having been raised by his mom, Angel Jones, and his stepdad who were both members of the 1990’s hip-hop band Kulay. A model by profession, Tony’s yearning for the stage may have also been inherited from his biological dad, actor Boom Labrusca. With such impressive genes, it’s no surprise that Tony’s charm and musical aptitude stood out throughout his groups’ performance of Jeremiah’s “Nanghihinayang” during the Middle Rounds.
So how would he make a move and let a girl know when he is attracted to her? Tony says he would make the effort to message the girl first and tell her straight up that he is very fond of her. The lucky lady can also expect some really nice gifts. And where will their special date be? Well, she can expect to have a memorable time with Tony at a theme park. It appears that this hunk is still very much a child at heart.
Tristan Ramirez Six feet tall and buff, Tristan is one fine specimen of a man. He keeps fit by regularly working out and playing basketball. But behind Tristan’s impressive built is a loving son and brother who dreams of improving his family’s living conditions. This is the reason why he tried his luck in showbiz and joined the Pinoy Boyband Superstar. Fortunately, the girls loved him and gave him a 90% approval rating. Host Billy Crawford also surprised Tristan by bringing his mom out on stage right before he sang for the judges. Inspired by the presence of his mother, who he only gets to see once a month, Tristan went on to deliver an uplifting rendition of the OPM classic “Ikaw Lang Ang Aking Mahal” and made the judges fall in love with his smile. Vice Ganda even remarked that Tristan already has everything - good looks, charm, and talent; he is already the total package and is only waiting for a break in the industry. And during his group’s performance of Westlife’s “Uptown Girl,” Tristan continued to enchant everyone with his overflowing charisma.
Now, the girl who will be lucky enough to win Tristan’s affections would have to expect to be treated with the full force of his captivating persona. He reveals his plans on how he will profess his feelings, “Kakausapin [ko] siya na parang nililigawan, hahawakan ang kamay niya, tititigan [siya] sa mata ng may puso at sasabihing, ‘Para kang kanta ni Bruno Mars. Cause you’re amazing just the way you are’.” And what is his vision of a dream date? “Nasa isang island, tapos nakatingin sa mga alon ng dagat habang umiinom ng iced green tea [at] nagpapatugtog ng music na nakaka-in love.”
