They have made the ladies scream their hearts out during the initial Auditions with their knockout looks. They have impressed the Superstar judges Aga Muhlach, Yeng Constantino, Sandara Park and Vice Ganda with their boyband-worthy singing voices and dance moves. And during last week’s Middle Rounds, we have witnessed how their talents and appeal shone through even while performing in a group, earning themselves coveted spots in the Live Shows. As we excitedly await the next stage in their journey to become the ultimate Pinoy Boyband Superstar, let us first get to know James, Joao and Mark more as they open up on what they consider as a dream date and how they would show their feelings to the girl lucky enough to snag their hearts.
Take a note, ladies! Here are some essential things you need to know about your idols.
James Ryan Cesena
James is an 18-year old boy from San Diego, California who is into extreme sports like skateboarding, cliff jumping and BMX racing. As if that’s not enough to get the attention of the girls, this thrill-seeking hottie is also a worship leader, definitely someone you can bring home to meet your parents! Plus, it doesn’t hurt that James sings and plays the guitar extremely well. So well in fact that, after his rousing performance of Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend,” Aga, Sandara and Yeng chose to give him a chance to prove himself in the Middle Rounds despite Vice’s issue with him not knowing how to speak Filipino nor sing any Tagalog songs. And although he forgot a few lyrics to Bamboo’s “Hallelujah,” James redeemed himself and impressed all the judges during the Top 25 group performances which earned him a spot in the Live Shows.
And, ladies, you may find this delightful. As determined as James is in pursuing his dreams, he would also be as equally steadfast in letting a girl he likes know of his feelings. He reveals his plan should he meet the girl of his dreams, “Yayakapin ko siya sa ulan so she stays warm with me. Bigyan ko siya ng chocolate at ice cream when she's feeling down. Sulat ko siya a special kanta about the little sweet and amazing things we do together.” And James has even grander plans for a dream date worthy of romantic movies, “I’ll pick her up in my car just before sunset and drive her to a beautiful lookout looking over the ocean. And as the sun is just setting over the horizon, I’ll hold her hand and look into her eyes and kiss her. Then I’ll take the dinner that I cooked earlier and we’ll take a blanket and go to the top of my car and sit and watch the stars as we talk all night.” Sounds like she’ll be one lucky girl!
Born and raised in Macau, China, this 19-year old cutie caused such a ruckus among the girls the moment he stepped into the Pinoy Boyband Superstar stage. And when Joao busted out his dance moves, the ladies just couldn’t stop screaming. He obtained a staggering 94% approval rating which earned him the right to perform in front of the judges. And although his singing was not too impressive, Aga, Yeng, Sandara, and Vice all agreed that he more than made up for it with his charm and allowed him to progress to the Middle Rounds. Together with Mark Oblea, Joao went on to dominate in the 5-member group performance where they sang “Sukob Na” by 17:28, drawing out the loudest screams from the ladies throughout the entire production number.
But this arrestingly good-looking party boy can become even more irresistible when he likes a girl. Joao says that when he is into someone he would, “Tell her straightforward that I like her and ask her out on a date. If we're at a social gathering, I'll just focus all my attention to her and talk to her the whole time. [I’ll] bring her favorite food unexpectedly or whenever she's feeling down.” And even though he loves the party scene, Joao is a little more laid back when it comes to his idea of a dream date which is a romantic picnic or dinner by the beach, where he can have a deep conversation with his special someone while stargazing.
When asked why the audience should vote for him, Mark answered, “Sa likod ng tingin ninyo ay mukhang maangas ay isang lalaking kayang-kayang magmahal ng wagas.” And this is certainly true, for he may be tough-looking, but behind his bad boy looks is a sweet guy who loves his mother dearly. When he met the judges during the Auditions, Mark even proudly declared that the most beautiful woman for him is his mom. This sweetness and sincerity came out even more when he sang Bamboo’s version of “So Far Away,” prompting the judges to proclaim that he is the total package. Aga even went so far as to predict that Mark would reach the Grand Finals. And during the Middle Rounds, Mark did not disappoint. His performance was one of the two strongest in the group according to Vice. Mark’s distinct voice and confidence on stage nabbed him a place in the coming Live Shows.
Although Mark has admitted that he is single right now, if he fell for a girl, how would he let her know that he likes her? Simple. Mark insists that he would always compliment the girl. He also adds that, “Pagka-text niya palang reply agad, INSTANT. Di ko hahayaang maubusan kame ng pag-uusapan. Kahit favorite number niya sa electric fan tatanungin ko, huwag lang mawalan ng pag-uusapan.” And his idea of a dream date? Well, he paints this romantic scene, “Rooftop, high city view, you and me, sweet music, great food and the best set up.”
